Dog Supplement Questions:
Are Chinese herbal supplements safe for my dog?
Yes. The Chinese have used natural herbal supplements to support dogs, horses, and cattle for hundreds of years. Along with acupuncture and chiropractic for dogs, herbal supplements are popular all over the world. An average of ten herbs are used in a formula creating a synergistic effect. By combining multiple herbs, low dosages of each individual ingredient can be used. In this way, the chances of any single herb causing side effects is greatly reduced. The amount of formula taken is very small: 1 tsp per 30 pounds of bodyweight.
All of our herbs are sourced from GMP's certified companies. This means that the correct species of herb is identified, proper concentration is checked and all batches are tested for heavy metals and pesticides. All packaging is made from food safe plastic and is BPA free.
How does my dog take the herbal supplement?
The herbs come in a powdered form with dosage by weight on the label. Give your dog the herbs everyday, once daily. For picky eaters, you may start your dog on a small percentage of his daily dose and work up to a full dosage gradually. If your dog continues to take herbs after 6 weeks, we recommend taking a rest from the herbs for one day, every week. This allows the body to have renewed response to the herbs and encourages the body to balance itself without the aid of the herbs. Administering during or after meals can reduce the incidence of gastrointestinal upset.
How long does my dog have to take herbs?
Generally, the longer a dog has had discomfort, the longer they need to take herbs. Older dogs may need herb supplements for ongoing support. Some issues, such as allergies, may see relief in a short time.
Can my dog take more than one formula?
Yes. However we recommend choosing one formula for your dog's main source of discomfort. Our formulas are designed to balance and support the whole body; consequently you may see improvement in your dog's overall health. If after a time other issues remain you can safely add an additional formula. Always remember that that the dosage listed on the bottle is the maximum, total dosage, no matter how many formulas are taken. For example, if your dog is taking 1 teaspoon of Mobility 2 and you add Temporary Discomfort into the daily regimen, the daily dose for both formulas combined remains 1 teaspoon (1/2 teaspoon of Mobility 2 and a 1/2 teaspoon of Temporary Discomfort).
Why are Chinese herbal supplements a good alternative?
Chinese herbs have been given to animals for over a thousand years. This has allowed herbal practitioners to find the most effective and safe combinations. These herbal formulas, in our opinion, our vastly superior to the majority of newly formulated supplements on the market today. They are compatible with Glucosamine/Chondroitin supplements and are vet friendly. A healthy dog can save money, especially with the issues that accompany the natural aging process and the working/ competition canine.
